#4 - Fifty First Dolls

So, they tell me it’s August already. It’s starting to smell like salt air and the rust on your door… Does anyone know how to freeze time, or at least slow it down a little? Let me know! I feel like I am floating through the weeks, and my only way of marking time is by how many dolls I finish. Speaking of…

Without even realizing, I hit and surpassed my 50th customized Blythe doll (I think the number now is fifty two). It really is wild to think about, because in my head, I still feel like I started customizing yesterday, though it will be eight months soon. It will take me a while to feel truly seasoned in this practice, I think. Sometimes I still feel like I am playing pretend, hoping no one will notice I’m dressing up as an artist instead of actually being one. I’m sure all artists empathize with that to a certain extent. Imposter syndrome is a bitch. I don’t know at what point it stops, but hey, I’ll let you know if I figure it out. Still, fifty is a huge milestone—that’s fifty times sanding down a faceplate… I shudder to think about it—and I am allowing myself to celebrate it as one. Here’s to many, many more.

Speaking of milestones, we hit 16k followers on Instagram (and 13.6k on the ever-stubborn abyss that is Tiktok). Thank you to all the new friends and, of course, the OGs for sticking around. Every time I hit another milestone like that, I think to myself that I could stop now and forever be proud of what I built. Even a thousand followers would have been near-unimaginable to me six months ago. So, as always, thank you for coming along with me.

The biggest piece of news I have for you guys is something I actually can’t explicitly say yet…. There is something extremely cool happening this weekend, and trust me I am exercising all of my limited patience to stop there. Just know that you will be seeing me (and I mean seeing me, emphasis on the seeing) very soon! Like, late August/early September soon. I need a haircut…

Another exciting tidbit I will share is that I’m making a doll for Julia Wolf! I think I’ve listened to “In My Room” more times than I’ve done my laundry. Genuinely. She is such an icon, and I’m overjoyed to get to make something for an artist I admire so deeply. Also, shoutout to Lawwtie (@ciciwth.ae) on Tiktok, the unofficial Julia Wolf champion, who I’ve been geeking out with since it happened (you might see this doll appear in an edit… who can say for sure….)

My Fear Street dolls for Olivia Scott Welch and Kiana Madeira are just about completed! I spent, no joke, two hours making Sam’s shirt from scratch this past weekend because nothing I found was quite right. I’ll be filming and posting those cuties this week! You are not ready for how adorable they look together.

But if you want to see process pictures of them, or any of my dolls, join my Instagram channel, Club Clarity, which is the little button under my bio. Or, you could just click here. You didn’t click it? Shame on you (kidding).

As a final note, my commissions are more jam-packed than ever—because I lack self restraint or an accurate ability to measure my own free time—and I have some amazing character dolls in the works, including pretty much half the cast of Twilight. I can’t wait to share them.

Well, folks, that’s all for now! A shorter entry for this week, for a change. Thank you for enabling my blogging fantasy by reading along.

Gossip Girl out.
