#2 - Youtube Killed The Podcast Star
Hello again folks! I’m back at it with the digital diary, something I have already begun to slack on (after one single entry, might I add). Writing these posts make me feel like Carrie Bradshaw – stylish and incompetent! And just like that…
Let’s start with some updates, shall we?
The most obvious first; I am still waiting to hear back from Emma Roberts about the Scream Queens doll, which was delivered about a week ago. But if you’re wondering what the hold up is, look no further than Twitter (is it called X now? I don’t really care…) to see pictures of Emma hard at work on the American Horror Story set! So insanely cool. Needless to say – she’s a busy bee, but I’m sure we’ll hear back soon. I’m totally not refreshing my feed every two seconds! I am so calm and normal! Regardless of when it happens, I have a diary entry already written out detailing my whole experience working on this doll, and plan to post it as soon as it’s time. (**UPDATE: this happened the literal second I posted this, but Emma liked the process video on Instagram… could this mean a post soon????**)
In the meantime, I’ve been working on a couple of dolls for two amazing Youtubers – Trin Lovell and Kennedy Claire Walsh. It’s always surreal to work on a doll for someone you’ve been watching through a screen for years, because in a lot of ways, they don’t actually feel like flesh and blood people. The internet is such a weird place, but it’s always great to be reminded that at the end of the day, we’re all human. Sounds simple and obvious, but in an era where we put so much stock into our online appearance, it is perhaps a much needed reminder. Maybe if everyone took time to think about that, we’d all be a lot less horrible to one another through our phones! Alright, enough soap-boxing.
Trin’s doll was delivered yesterday (the day after her birthday, actually), and I am waiting on one last piece for Kennedy before I ship her off too. They have both been so wonderful to exchange messages with. Show their socials some love – in fact, Trin just posted a great video about the movie Obsession on her Youtube that I was shamelessly watching at 3 am last night. It is a very thoughtful review of the movie — you know, unlike certain people’s videos about it cough cough.
I digress.
I hit 10k on Tiktok, a milestone I never thought I’d see, considering that app loves to shadow ban my content on a whim. My socials have been growing at such a rapid rate lately, and I say that without ego – it is genuinely amazing, considering my loved ones had to convince me to start this whole content creating endeavor as I felt no one would care about my art at all. If I paused it all right here I could die happy, honestly, but I am also excited to see where the future leads me.
The final piece of news is that I was reached out to by another actress I admire so deeply for a commission to make one of her characters, so keep an eye out for that! I’m so honored she trusted me to depict her art with my own. Any fans of CW shows reading this — you may recognize her!
I also have some commissions in the works for characters I adore, and I’ve been greatly enjoying working on them. My passion for doll making waxes and wanes — I never lose it entirely, of course, but there are some weeks where I find myself falling into that perfected routine, and doll making begins to feel like breathing. Lately, though, my excitement for what I do has hit an all time peak. I am just so grateful and fulfilled by this work.
Say, maybe it’s time to quit my corporate job! Kidding…. a girl can dream…
